Toro

Toro

The D.O. Toro, created in 1987, encompasses twelve municipalities in Zamora and three in Valladolid, corresponding to the Bajo Duero region. The river crosses the region from east to west, and the D.O. is located in the south. The D.O. Toro is famous for the production of red wines made from the local Tinta de Toro grape, although it also includes the production of rosé and white wines (in smaller quantities).
The red wines, traditionally known for their power, have undergone a remarkable modernization in recent years and now also stand out for their elegance and complexity, especially in the case of medium and long-aged wines.

Climate
Extreme continental climate with Atlantic influences. Arid, with low precipitation (the annual average is around 350 – 400 mm), harsh winters, long frost periods, short and mild summers, and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night.
Soil
Brown-limestone soils formed by sandstone, clay, and limestone sediments. They range from silty materials to coarse-grained sandstones. The best terrains are the alluvial gravelly ones.
