Matsu La Moza 2025 revives the tradition of Toro white wines from a contemporary perspective. Featuring the Verdejo variety, well complemented by a small percentage of Malvasía, Palomino, Viura, Albillo, and Godello, this wine completes the Matsu range, a family connected to the land and time where each creation represents a stage of life. La Moza symbolizes the first steps, the youth, and the energy of someone beginning to forge their own path.

Matsu La Moza 2025 is born in the D.O. Toro from Verdejo sourced from vineyards aged between 10 and 20 years, along with a small percentage of Malvasía Castellana from vines aged between 50 and 150 years, as well as scattered vines of Godello, Albillo, Palomino, and Viura. The vines grow on poor, sandy soils with a high granite content, in an environment that enhances tension and aromatic expression.

Matsu La Moza is made with a 4-hour skin maceration and gentle pressing, followed by spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The Verdejo fermented in concrete tanks and spent 3 months on lees in concrete deposits, while the Malvasía Castellana and the other minority varieties spent 14 months in large 600-liter French oak barrels with light toasting. The result is a creamy, balanced white wine with volume, a very lively profile, and a persistent citrus finish.

Matsu La Moza is part of the Matsu collection, a family of wines that pays tribute to different generations of winemakers and expands its story with this chapter dedicated to youth and first steps. With this wine, the winery reinforces a contemporary vision of white wines from Toro, combining tradition and modernity in a direct, fresh, and characterful proposal. Additionally, the project introduces a renewed, cleaner, and more contemporary image that highlights the human and recognizable character of the house.

Matsu La Moza 2025 pairs very well with sushi and sashimi, Peruvian ceviche, vegetable wok, pad thai, gyozas, warm salads, and white fish. It also matches soft cheeses and blue cheeses, thanks to its breadth and balanced acidity. This is a versatile white wine, designed to enhance fresh dishes, spicy flavors, and creamy-textured preparations.

Tasting notes

Matsu La Moza shows a bright, clean, and luminous straw yellow color. It is a white wine with a lively presence.

On the nose, this white from Toro is marked by stone fruit, with pear as the main reference. It stands out with a fresh and aromatic expression, and creamy, honeyed nuances soon appear, adding volume. In the background, herbal notes emerge, giving it a more vibrant and expressive profile.

It reveals a broad, unctuous, and harmonious palate, with good acidity that provides energy and balance, along with remarkable volume that envelops the palate and reinforces its vibrant and expressive character. The experience concludes with a slightly bitter finish, with a citrusy and persistent profile, extending the sensation of freshness. A balanced white wine with good depth on the palate.

Winemaker
Bodega Matsu is a project by Vintae, a wine company born in La Rioja in the late nineties. Starting in 2003, it began expanding to other winemaking regions beyond Rioja, producing wines in Ribera del Duero, Ribera del Queiles, and Navarra. Shortly after, attracted by the extraordinary characteristics of the D.O. Toro, Vintae’s technical director and winemaker, Raúl Acha, started exploring the vineyards of Toro. What drew him to this region was its tradition of minimal intervention in the vineyard, made possible by the denomination’s climatic conditions, with very low humidity and sandy soils. Added to this tradition is the rich heritage of old vines of extraordinary quality, as well as the strength and character of the Tinta de Toro grape.

In 2006, the first vintage of Matsu was crafted, initially with just one wine: El Viejo. Two vintages later, two more wines were added: El Pícaro and El Recio. Matsu, which means "to wait" in Japanese, is a tribute to all the winegrowers who, over generations, have worked the vineyards with dedication, wisdom, and sacrifice. The labels, featuring a young man, a middle-aged man, and an old man, represent three of these generations and correspond to each of the wines.
