Region located on the slopes of the Douro River and its tributaries, in northern Portugal, where the famous Port Wine (fortified wine) has been produced for more than three centuries. The geographical scope of the D.O.C. Porto belongs to the Douro region.
There are several types of port: red and white, aged in oak or bottle, vintage or non-vintage... The mention ‘Vintage’ refers to being made from an exceptional harvest.
A wide range of grape varieties is used in the production of port, with touriga nacional, tinta cão, tinta barroca, tinta roriz, touriga francesa being predominant... The vineyards stretch across more or less steep terraces and are classified into categories from A to F. The A estates, generally closer to the river, are of the highest quality.
