Authored by the expertise of the Antón family (Finca Villacreces), the new vintage of this organic and exclusive red wine is here. Vetus Orgánico 2022 comes from grapes sourced from a single estate, in a vintage graded as Excellent, and matures for 9 months in barrels.

Vetus presents its fifth vintage of the elegant organic red wine: Vetus Organic 2022, crafted from 100% Tinta de Toro in a harvest rated as Excellent. It originates from a 20-hectare estate surrounding the winery in Villabuena del Puente. The vines, planted in espalier (cordón Royat) around 1990, are situated on north-south-facing slopes at 700 metres above sea level, on calcareous-clay soils.

An organic viticulture is practised there, based on techniques such as cover cropping. The grapes are hand-harvested in 15 kg boxes, with bunch selection. After a careful winemaking process, it is aged 9 months in American and French oak barrels.

With the creation of Bodegas Vetus, Artevino Family Wineries committed to establishing a presence in a region of great viticultural potential such as the D.O. Toro, rich in old vines and marked by an extreme climate. Thus, in the surroundings of Villabuena del Puente, a winery was born focused on precise elaborations and estate wines with their own identity, such as Vetus Organic.

The winery

Bodegas Vetus

Bodegas Vetus (2003) is the project of the Antón family (Grupo Artevino) in the D.O. Toro. For its development, they acquired an estate in the heart of the denomination. This estate currently houses modern winery facilities inaugurated in 2008 and 20 hectares of vineyards divided into 3 plots with vines of different ages and planting patterns.

Vetus applies precision and environmentally respectful viticulture, with meticulous care of the vines. The tinta de Toro grape is the star of the vineyard, cultivated in trellis and limited to low yields of around 4,000 kg per hectare in favor of quality. The vines are located on slopes with sandy-loam soils and benefit from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between night and day during the ripening period, which helps produce wines with greater intensity of color and aromas.

The wines of Vetus aim for greater friendliness and balance than traditional reds from Toro. Additionally, the winery produces a white wine under the umbrella of the D.O. Rueda.
