Syrah

The clusters are medium-sized and compact. The berries are small, oval-shaped, and bluish in color, with an intense blackberry flavor. The wines are pleasant and flavorful, with an intense color, notable acidity, and aromas of violets and ripe black fruits. In cooler climates, the acidity and tannins are higher (France) than in warmer climates, and they develop aromas of blackberries, pepper, and bay leaf. In warmer climates (Australia), they have more body, the tannins are softer, and they release aromas characteristic of the terroir, leather, and spices (licorice, prunes, anise). Wines of this variety age very well. It is used as a single varietal or blended with other varieties, such as Garnacha, Tempranillo, Merlot, or Cabernet Sauvignon.
