Cava

Cava

With more than 70% of international sales, Cava is the Spanish D.O. that exports the most. It encompasses over 38,000 hectares of vineyards and more than 6,800 winegrowers. Its associated wineries are present in more than 100 countries.

The D.O. Cava includes in Catalonia 63 municipalities from Barcelona, 52 from Tarragona, 12 from Lleida, and 5 from Girona; in Álava: Laguardia, Moreda de Álava, and Oyón; in Badajoz: Almendralejo; in Navarra: Mendavia and Viana; in Valencia: Requena; in Zaragoza: Ainzón and Cariñena; and in La Rioja, it encompasses 18 municipalities.

Climate
Since the D.O. Cava includes sparkling wines produced using the traditional method, it encompasses municipalities in Catalonia, Álava, La Rioja, Badajoz, Navarra, Valencia, and Zaragoza, meaning the climate will reflect the characteristics of each production area. However, in the main cava-producing region, the Catalan region of Penedès, the climate is Mediterranean.
Soil
It presents a great diversity, depending on the production area.
