Roger Goulart Gran Reserva Extra Brut 2021 is a premium cava that you will only find here. It originates from white wines of the magnificent 2021 vintage, and its blend includes five grape varieties: 30% xarel•lo, 20% macabeo, 20% parelalda, 20% chardonnay, and 10% pinot noir. In May 2022, it was bottled, and after the tirage, the second fermentation in the bottle began, followed by a long aging on lees that lasted for 42 months until its disgorgement in October 2025.
The history of Roger Goulart is intertwined with the history of the Golart and Canals families, rooted in Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona). Initially connected to rural life, they produced wine for their own consumption. It was Miquel Canals i Farré who inaugurated the winery in 1882, after excavating a deep cava in the garden of the family home. In 1919, the architect Ignasi Mas i Morell, a disciple of Gaudí, built spectacular modernist-style facilities where the entire production process continues to take place today.
Roger Goulart Gran Reserva Extra Brut 2021 (D.O. Cava) pairs perfectly with a creamy lobster rice and a rockfish stew. Another excellent option is grilled fish such as sole and turbot.
Beautiful straw yellow color with softly golden highlights, crystalline and very bright. Small-sized bubbles.
Fragrant and with good intensity on the nose. Initially, notes of fine aging appear alongside hints of spices, toasted bread, and sweet quince jelly. Later, it reveals echoes of white stone fruits on a background of dried fruits.
On the palate, it is balanced and rounded, with a good gustatory development highlighting its clear fruity character alongside delicate toasted notes. Mid-palate, a very well-integrated carbonation provides a pleasant and harmonious passage. Long and elegant final persistence.
The cultivation of vines at the Masía de Can Goulart dates back to the 18th century, specifically to 1882, when the Canals family acquired the cellars, making it one of the first sparkling wine producers in Spain. The Canals family still owns the cellars today. Its impressive 1920 building, designed by architect Ignasi Mas Morell, is a prime example of Catalan agrarian modernism and one of its main attractions. Roger Goulart does not own vineyards nor produce the base wine, although he closely follows the entire process. To craft this Brut Nature, he uses the classic trio of regional varieties (Parellada, Xarel.lo, Macabeo), which each contribute distinct qualities: structure, silkiness on the palate, and aromatic finesse.
