Viñas Familia Gil

Family
The Gil family has been dedicated to the noble art of cultivating vineyards and producing wines for four generations.
Description of their own wines

Viñas Familia Gil is committed through its wineries to the native grape varieties found in the different and diverse Spanish wine regions, especially dedicating greater effort to the preservation of those old vineyards that make up the rich, though increasingly scarce, heritage of these unique varieties in the various areas where their wineries are located.

The different enólogos in each of the wineries are specialized in the production of the typical varieties of the regions where they are situated.

The wines reflect the characteristics of the varieties, vineyards, and regions from which they originate, showcasing their most genuine personality in each case.

Professional career

Since 1916, when Juan Gil Jiménez founded his first winery in the very center of Jumilla (Bodega Juan Gil), the Gil family has remained dedicated to viticulture and winemaking generation after generation. Starting in 2002, a series of small wineries located in different appellations have been added to the original winery.

Currently, Viñas Familia Gil is managed by the brothers Gil Vera: Miguel (pictured) and Ángel, the fourth generation of the family, and is comprised of the wineries Juan Gil (1916) and El Nido (2002) in the D.O. Jumilla; Can Blau (2004) in the D.O. Montsant; Ateca (2005) in D.O. Calatayud; in 2007 Atalaya in the D.O. Almansa; in 2008 Tridente in Zamora and Shaya in the D.O. Rueda; Lagar da Condesa (D.O. Rías Baixas) in 2013; Morca (D.O. Campo de Borja) in 2014; and Bodegas Rosario Vera in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Viñas Familia Gil brings together an extensive catalog of wines with different characteristics and production areas, with a common thread: their commitment to native grape varieties. Furthermore, it has successfully penetrated international markets: its wines are sold in more than 40 countries.
