Blau 2024 is a red wine crafted in the emerging D.O. Montsant, the continuation of Priorat, but less known and with more affordable prices. In their quest to develop projects in different wine regions, the Gil family arrived in Montsant in 2003. Here they produce this blend of traditional grapes (cariñena and garnacha) alongside the foreign syrah, born from small plots planted on terraces and perfected with a brief aging in French oak barrels.

Blau 2024 is a red wine produced by Cellers Can Blau, the winery of the Viñas Familia Gil group in the D.O. Montsant. A coupage that combines traditional grapes and the foreign syrah, born from a puzzle of small plots planted on terraces and selected for their unique soil and microclimate.

The production of Blau began with fermentation and maceration of the grapes in stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 25ºC. After malolactic fermentation in tanks, the wine underwent 4 months of aging in French oak barrels. The result is a red wine with great aromatic intensity and color, with notes of ripe fruit and a long finish on the palate.

Under the guidance of the Gil family, the D.O. Jumilla has risen to the top of the international ranking with red wines like El Nido and Clio. Wines of exceptional quality and high price that the North American market welcomed with open arms, especially after Robert Parker, the most influential critic in history, awarded 99 points to El Nido 2004. Following the El Nido winery, the Gil family group (Viñas Familia Gil) began expanding into other appellations of origin.

One of the first ventures of the Gil family outside Jumilla was the winery Cellers Can Blau, in the D.O. Montsant. The potential of this region in Tarragona, nestled at the foot of an imposing massif, offered a magnificent testing ground for the Gil family. The old vineyards composed of cariñena and garnacha varieties were complemented by the perfect adaptation of foreign varieties such as syrah, along with a complex network of soils, orientations, and exposures, which over time has positioned the D.O. Montsant as one of the best values in the Spanish vineyard.

The Blau label was born reaching for the sky, as its first vintage was included in the list of the 100 best wines in the world by Wine Spectator in 2009. Blau 2024 (D.O. Montsant) pairs perfectly with red meats, big game, game rice dishes, cured meats, aged cheeses, and chocolate desserts.
