Tridente Tempranillo Cuvée Especial 2022 is an exclusive creation by Bodegas Tridente (part of the Gil Family Estates group) for Vinoselección. In fact, Tridente Tempranillo Cuvée Especial 2022 is the second edition, following the 2016 vintage presented in 2018. The involvement of Gil Family Estates and the technical supervision of Luis Santiago Santamaría link the project’s philosophy — focused on quality and indigenous grape varieties — with the character of the Tempranillo grown in the Tierra del Vino area of Zamora.
Tridente Tempranillo Cuvée Especial 2022 is aged for 15 months in oak barrels, imparting notes of fine wood, black liquorice and chocolate on the nose, while contributing structure and noble tannins on the palate. The work in the winery has sought a balance between fruity intensity and the complexity brought by ageing, achieving an elegant mouthfeel and a long, persistent finish.
Although produced in the Zamora region known as Tierra del Vino, Tridente Tempranillo Cuvée Especial 2022 is protected under the geographical indication V.T. Castilla y León. It was to this area that brothers Miguel and Ángel Gil — fourth-generation representatives of one of the most renowned winemaking families from Jumilla — expanded in order to promote Bodegas Tridente, one of the eleven wineries that make up their group, Viñas Familia Gil.
Tridente Tempranillo Cuvée Especial 2022 is an ideal red wine for game dishes and hearty stews, and pairs perfectly with braised pork cheeks or stewed partridge.
Appearance: Attractive amber-red colour, intense, conveying a sense of concentration and elegance.
Nose: Complex and expressive, revealing aromas of red and black fruit alongside mineral notes, black liquorice, and chocolate, finished with a pleasant balsamic background and fine wood influences.
Palate: Broad and tasty, showing good structure and balance, with an elegant progression and noble tannins; concludes with a long and persistent finish.
In 2008, the Gil family (leading the powerful Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares group) brought their expertise to Villanueva de Campeán, 30 km south of Zamora, in the heart of the region known as Tierra del Vino. Here, they founded Bodegas Tridente together with Enrique Busto. A small winery where red wines are crafted using the traditional varieties tinta de Toro (mainly), prieto picudo, and mencía. The vineyards are located in Villanueva and El Pego, with old, low-yield vines from the Bierzo and León regions. Currently, Bodegas Tridente markets the brands Entresuelos, Tridente Mencía, Tridente Tempranillo, Tridente Prieto Picudo, and Rejón.
