Atteca 2022 is one of the finest Spanish red wines crafted as a single-varietal Garnacha, a grape with great tradition in the D.O. Calatayud. Created by Bodegas Ateca, part of the renowned Viñas Familia Gil (Gil Family Estates) group and producers of top-tier wines like El Nido.
Garnacha is, alongside tempranillo, the most well-known red grape variety in our country. This grape, spread across nearly all corners of the Spanish geography, is proving that, when treated as it deserves, it produces red wines that rival the best in the world. In the lands of Aragón, it boasts a long-standing tradition. Here is where Atteca 2022 is born.
Atteca carries the signature of the renowned Gil family, internationally recognized for their winemaking expertise with the monastrell variety in southeastern Spain and creators of some of the country's finest wines, such as El Nido, which nearly scores 100 Parker points with each vintage. Over the past decade, the Gil family has expanded their reach to various wine-producing regions, forming the Viñas Familia Gil group. Bodegas Ateca is their project in the D.O. Calatayud.
Atteca 2022 is crafted from small plots planted on the slopes of the Ateca mountains and surrounding areas, all at a considerable altitude (700-1000 m), and cultivated with old garnacha vines. These conditions provide an ideal and slow ripening of the grapes. High-quality raw materials and meticulous aging in French oak barrels result in a highly recommended red wine. Perfect for pairing with creamy rice dishes, stewed legumes, game meats and poultry, fish and shellfish in sauce, roasted red meats, cured and blue cheeses, and even mushrooms.

Creators' opinion
Atecca has a deep cherry color. On the nose, it presents intense aromas of ripe red fruit (raspberry) that blend perfectly with the spicy notes of cocoa, vanilla, and licorice from its noble aging. A powerful and full-bodied palate with a very fresh and fruity passage, yet flavorful and complex, mineral, with a notable finish where the fruity and spicy aromas reappear on the retronasal. A magnificent expression of an elegant Aragonese garnacha with very mature tannins.
Integrated into the Juan Gil Family Estates group, Bodegas Ateca stands as the initiative of the legendary winemaking family from Murcia in the D.O. Calatayud. For over a decade, its name has reflected the Zaragoza municipality where it is located.
The philosophy of the winery focuses on producing wines from the best Garnacha vineyards in the region, with the winemaking overseen by the renowned Australian enologist Michael Kyberd.
