The clusters are medium-sized, compact, and cylindrical in shape. The berries are medium-sized, spherical, and bluish-gray in color. The color intensity is medium and shows a balance between acidity and alcohol. It is a very sweet variety, with aromas of ripe, almost raisined grapes, and a powerful, fruity flavor. In very hot years, it produces tannic wines with high alcohol content. Barrel aging softens the tannins. Depending on the region, it can present characteristic and unique flavors. It is often blended with other varieties to add character to the wine and enhance its longevity. Carbonic macerations of Monastrell are also very interesting.
