The origin of the González Byass brand lies in the Tío Pepe winery, founded in Jerez in 1835 by Manuel María González with the aim of capitalizing on the growing demand for Sherry in England. Shortly after, the small Tío Pepe winery was overwhelmed by its success, and in 1855 Manuel María González decided to partner with his agent in England, Mr. Robert Blake Byass, thus establishing the González Byass company. The commercial partnership between the Byass and González families lasted until 1988, when the Byass family withdrew from the business, and the winery became 100% owned by the descendants of Manuel María González. Since 2006, Mauricio González-Gordon, a fifth-generation family member, has been the president of González Byass.
In recent decades, González Byass has evolved into a Family of Wine, incorporating wineries from various regions. Among them are Bodegas Beronia -D.O.Ca. Rioja-, Viñas del Vero -D.O. Ribera del Duero. In 2016, the company expanded to the New World with the addition of the Chilean family winery Viñedos Veramonte, and in 2017, it completed the acquisition of Casa Pedro Domecq (brandies and wines), whose main activities are based in Mexico.
González Byass complements its product range with Vermouth La Copa, Chinchón anise from La Alcoholera, the fruit liqueurs Granpecher and Granpomier, and high-end spirits, including Nomad Outland Whisky, Druide vodka, and the gins The London Nº1 and Mom.
