Viñas del Vero Reserva Especial 2022 is born in the heart of Somontano, from the extensive vineyard areas that Viñas del Vero manages in the region. The winery oversees 500 hectares owned outright, ensuring a consistent selection of plots for this exclusive project. In Viñas del Vero Reserva Especial 2022, the cabernet sauvignon and merlot varieties are blended, both international cultivars established by the house in the region and responsible for the wine's varietal structure; the first vintage presented as a premiere reflects the careful selection of grapes typical of a project conceived for Vinoselección.
The production of Viñas del Vero Reserva Especial 2022 combines a majority blend of cabernet sauvignon with a minority of merlot and extended barrel ageing: the wine has spent 14 months in new barrels, with 80% French oak, imparting complexity and spicy notes to the fruit expression.
Viñas del Vero Reserva Especial 2022 is linked to a winery founded in Barbastro in 1986 that has become a reference within the D.O. Somontano. Viñas del Vero, currently part of the González-Byass group, controls one of the largest vineyard areas in the country and produces around six million bottles annually, reaching markets in fifty countries. The exclusive initial release of Viñas del Vero Reserva Especial 2022 as a creation made exclusively for Vinoselección highlights its innovative vocation and the winery's capacity to develop unique projects within its extensive historical trajectory.
Viñas del Vero Reserva Especial 2022 is particularly well suited to accompany strongly flavoured meats and cured cheeses; it pairs especially well with duck magret and cured sheep cheese.
Tasting notes
Displays an intense and high-layered red colour, with cherry-red highlights indicating concentration and the influence of 14 months in new oak barrels.
On the nose, it opens with aromas of ripe dark fruit - blackberries and cassis typical of Cabernet Sauvignon and plums of Merlot - accompanied by notes of vanilla, toast, cacao, and spices from the French oak.
On the palate, it shows body and firm yet well-integrated tannins, lively acidity that adds freshness, and a persistent finish where ripe fruit and toasted and spicy nuances reappear.
The winery
Established in Barbastro in 1986, Viñas del Vero is the leading winery in Somontano in terms of production volume and one of those that has most promoted the name of this Denomination of Origin around the world. Currently, the winery belongs to the international group González-Byass. Viñas del Vero manages one of the largest vineyards in the country, with 500 hectares owned and an additional 515 hectares under control, producing around six million bottles a year, which are distributed to about fifty countries.
The first wines from Viñas del Vero were produced in an experimental winery in Salas Bajas and were launched on the market in the spring of 1990. Earlier, in 1987, the company had acquired the San Marcos estate for the construction of a new winery, which was inaugurated in July 1993. Today, Viñas del Vero is considered one of the most innovative brands in this country thanks to the quality and diversity of its wines.
