González Byass is synonymous with tradition and excellence in the world of wine. Founded in 1835, this historic Jerez winery has evolved with the times, becoming an internationally renowned wine group. We move to their Toledo project: Finca Constancia, a cutting-edge winery designed in the image of a château. Here we select their top wine, Altos de la Finca 2019, the result of the blend of the two emblematic varietals of the estate: petit verdot and syrah. A complex wine in which the varietal aromas still remain present after 18 months of aging in French oak. It presents a powerful and long palate, with sweet and flavorful tannins. Highly recommended.

General Information

Altos de la Finca 2019 is crafted from the highest parcels of Finca Constancia, where the conditions favor greater aromatic concentration, higher acidity, and freshness. This wine is composed of a unique blend: petit verdot (60%) and syrah (40%), two international varieties that are gaining prominence in the Spanish wine scene and show magnificent adaptation in this spectacular estate located in the Toledo region. Its 18-month aging in French oak barrels does not mask the predominantly fresh and fruity profile of this red wine.

The result is a red wine with a fine and intense nose, presenting aromas of red and black fruit along with balsamic, mineral, and smoky notes. It has good structure and balance, is flavorful, with fine and firm tannins, fresh and concentrated, with vibrancy and a persistent finish. A highly recommended wine that boasts an impressive track record, including a gold medal at Mundus Vini for its 2018 vintage.

The story of Finca Constancia began in the year 2000, when González Byass acquired this spectacular estate nestled between the Montes de Toledo and the Sierra de Gredos in the province of Toledo. The goal was to establish a cutting-edge winery integrated with its vineyard and to produce wines whose personality was closely tied to their surrounding environment. The first step involved conducting various agronomic studies to analyze the adaptation of grape varieties to the different soil types of the estate, achieving maximum compatibility between soil and vine.

By 2005, construction of the winery began, and it opened its doors in 2006. The winery is a sustainable building harmonized with its surroundings, divided into three areas: the wooden section, which houses the barrels and bottle cellar; the glass section, corresponding to the bottling area; and the stainless steel section, where the grapes are received and transformed into wine. Finca Constancia exclusively produces wines from its own vineyards, totaling 200 hectares divided into 82 parcels, each yielding unique wines.

The red wine Altos de la Finca 2019 (V.T. Castilla) is ideal for pairing with lamb seasoned with sweet spices or barbecue ribs. It’s also perfect with desserts featuring dark chocolate.

The winery

Finca Constancia

The story of Finca Constancia begins in 2000, when González Byass acquired a 230-hectare estate located in the province of Toledo with the aim of establishing a winery in the style of a 'château,' with facilities and vineyards on the same property. Today, Finca Constancia boasts facilities equipped with the most modern technology, inaugurated in 2006 and surrounded by 200 hectares of vineyards planted in different stages, including 3 hectares of 40-year-old Garnacha vines discovered upon acquiring the estate.

An internationally oriented winery, present in more than 30 countries, which has received significant recognitions for its wines (over 90 points in Robert Parker's publication for its Finca Constancia and Altos de la Finca wines, and several Bacchus de Oro awards, as an example).

Finca Constancia dedicates an important chapter to research. Notable initiatives include the planting of an experimental garden to study the behavior of grape varieties in different soils and the experimentation with various cultivation and winemaking techniques. Its vineyards host a wide range of national and international grape varieties, harvested and vinified separately.
