Pauillac

Recognized in 1936, the A.O.C. Pauillac is located north of Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, in the Haut-Médoc. Its vineyard area slightly exceeds 1,200 hectares, and from these come the renowned wines of three of Bordeaux's five Premiers Crus wineries: the prestigious Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, and Château Mouton Rothschild. Indeed, for many, the reds of Pauillac are considered the quintessence of Bordeaux wines.
Climate
Although, in general, it shares the same mild Atlantic climate as Médoc due to its proximity to the ocean, the closeness of La Gironda further moderates the temperatures in the Pauillac region.
Soil
The soils are homogeneous with a predominance of gravel and large pebbles and extraordinary natural drainage.
