Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Originally, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande was part of the extensive estate of Château Pichon Longueville, whose existence dates back to the 17th century. However, it was not until 1850 that the estate began its independent journey. In that year, the vast property of Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville was divided upon his death between his children Raoul and Virginie. One part, Château Pichon Longueville Baron, went to the new baron, while the other was inherited by his sister Virginie, becoming Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. Since 2007, the château has been owned by the Rouzaud family, who also own Champagne Louis Roederer.

According to the 1855 Bordeaux wine classification, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of the 15 Second Grands Crus Classés of the region. However, its proximity to Château Latour (one of the most important Premiers Crus), with which it shares an almost identical terroir and climate, makes it considered to be of virtually the same excellent quality. The winery manages a total of 78 hectares, predominantly planted with cabernet sauvignon (61%) and merlot (32%). The significant contribution of this second variety to its blends is the distinctive feature of the estate compared to other Pauillac producers, resulting in red wines that are more voluptuous and smooth.
