Ribeira Sacra

Ribeira Sacra

The region stretches along the banks of the Miño and Sil rivers, in the south of the province of Lugo and the northern part of Ourense. It is divided into five subzones: Amandi (Lugo), Chantada (Lugo), Quiroga-Bibei (Lugo-Ourense), Ribeiras do Miño (Lugo), Ribeiras do Sil (Ourense).

Climate
Very different, depending on the area. In the Sil valley, it is drier and cooler, with greater continental influence, while in the Miño valley, it has a more Atlantic character. The vineyards closest to the rivers with south or southeast orientation enjoy a warmer climate.
Soil
The majority of the soils exhibit high acidity and are sandy, although variations occur depending on the areas (in some, they are granitic and underdeveloped, while in others, they are complex). The vineyard is situated on steeply inclined terraces.
