General Information

Sílice Xabrega 2021 is a red wine born from a traditional sloping vineyard, planted on soils of decomposed granite and mica, in the Sil River Canyon, where ecological farming is practiced without the use of chemical products. Under these principles, the harvest is carried out manually at the optimal moment of grape ripening and, once in the winery, the grapes are gently destemmed and crushed to begin a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. After a malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 6 months in new oak barrels and the 833 bottles produced in this vintage are hand-bottled with a light filtration.

Sílice viticultores is a project founded by three friends in 2013: the Rodríguez brothers and the winemaker Fredi Torres created the winery with the aim of reviving the winemaking tradition in Ribeira Sacra. They achieve this with ease, showcasing limited productions of great quality and subtlety.

Sílice Xabrega 2021 is a wine from Ribeira Sacra that combines tradition and modernity. Its Atlantic personality, along with its organoleptic qualities, make it the perfect red wine to pair with cured meats, red meats, barbecues, ham, semi-cured cheeses, beef, cecina, hearty dishes, and grilled meats.

Tasting notes

Cherry red color, medium intensity, clean and bright.

Fine and elegant nose where aromas of red fruit and wildflowers stand out, accompanied by smoky notes, followed by hints of underbrush on a mineral background.

On the palate, the mineral notes stand out. It is velvety on the palate, intense, and medium-bodied. Smoky and balsamic notes appear in the aftertaste.

The winery

Sílice Viticultores is the wine project of the Galician brothers Carlos and Juan Manuel Rodríguez and the winemaker based in Priorat, Fredi Torres. Convinced of the spectacular potential of the vertical vineyards of Ribeira Sacra, the three partners founded a small winery in 2013 in the municipality of Sober, located in the province of Lugo. With the fruit of 2 hectares of vineyards, partly owned and partly rented, they began producing fine and elegant wines outside the Designation of Origin.

The practice of environmentally respectful viticulture and artisanal winemaking, rooted in tradition, are the hallmarks of Sílice Viticultores, which has quickly led them to success. In 2017, their red wine Finca Lobeiras was awarded the Revelation Wine distinction at the Instituto Galego do Viño awards, and specialized critics such as James Suckling and Jancis Robinson have already given high scores to their creations. A meteoric trajectory for a winery that produced 3,000 bottles in its first vintage and today barely exceeds 20,000.
