The oldest vineyards of Quinta do Pégo, on the banks of the Douro River, are the exquisite origin of Quinta do Pégo 10 Years Old Port Second Edition 2016, a magnificent Tawny made exclusively with grapes from the 2016 harvest by winemaker Manuel Henrique Da Silva. With a decade of aging in wood, this clean wine with notes of dried fruit and a flavorful, silky palate is the result of the blend of some of the finest Portuguese grape varieties: touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta totiz, tinta cão, and tinta barroca.
This is the second 10-year-old Tawny from Quinta do Pégo Winery, located in the Cima Corgo subregion, near Vila do Pinhão in Portugal. An area renowned for the high quality of its grapes, used in the production of exceptional red wines, outstanding Vintage Ports, and Late Bottled Vintage Ports.
Unlike other Tawnies, this Port is not a blend of several years. It represents the pure expression of the 2016 harvest in the Douro. Served very cold, this wine from the D.O.C. Porto is ideal as a dessert drink. While it can be enjoyed on its own, it also pairs perfectly with all kinds of cheeses, chocolate, and desserts.
The first historical document that mentions Quinta do Pégo dates back to 1548, although it is known that the origin of the estate is earlier. In the 19th century (1825), the estate was purchased in a forced sale by Francisco Da Silva Torres, the second husband of Doña Antonia. The history of the winery concludes in 2003 when it was acquired by the AMKA group.
The Quinta do Pégo winery is located in the Douro region, in the Cima Corgo subregion, very close to Vila do Pinhão. This entire area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the beauty of the Douro River valley, an idyllic place where manual harvesting takes place at the beginning of September on the steep terraces overlooking the freshwater.
The renowned Portuguese winery in the Douro Valley boasts an internationally prestigious winemaker, Manuel Henrique Da Silva, who, along with his team, crafts elegant wines of the D.O.P. Douro, Port Vintage wines, and Late Bottled Vintage wines from the native varieties touriga nacional, tinto cão, tinta barroca, tinta roriz, sousão, and touriga franca.
In addition to the estate and the winery, Quinta do Pégo features a hotel and a restaurant, perfect for exploring the Douro region, its wines, and its gastronomy.
