Graham's Porto

Graham's Porto

Graham's Porto was founded in 1820 by the brothers William and John Graham in Oporto, Portugal. Originally focused on the textile trade, the winery was established when they accepted 27 barrels of Port wine as payment of a debt. This marked the beginning of one of the most prestigious Port wine houses.

In 1890 they acquired Quinta dos Malvedos, an emblematic estate in the Douro Valley, which became the heart of their Vintage wines. In 1970, the Symington family, with a long tradition in the wine world, acquired the winery, consolidating its legacy and commitment to excellence.

Graham's owns four estates in the Douro Valley: Quinta dos Malvedos, Quinta do Tua, Quinta da Vila Velha and Quinta do Vale de Malhadas. The vineyards are located on traditional dry stone terraces, with south-facing exposure and schist soils. Altitude ranges from 100 to 400 metres above sea level. The climate is Mediterranean with continental influence, ideal for grape ripening.

The main grape varieties grown and used by the winery are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão. These native varieties bring complexity, structure and ageing potential to Graham's Port wines.

Vinification takes place at Quinta dos Malvedos, where grapes are hand-selected, destemmed and fermented in stone lagares or stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is stopped by adding grape spirit to preserve natural sugars. The wines are aged in oak casks in the cellar of Vila Nova de Gaia, built in 1890, where the maritime climate favours slow and balanced ageing.
