The vine of tinta barroca is robust and vigorous. The most productive and easiest to grow among the different varietals that make up the recipe for the great fortified port wines. It can be planted with a north or east orientation, at relatively high altitudes. Early ripening, the vines produce abundant quantities of grapes with high sugar content. It has a very thin and dark skin and contributes floral aromas, ripe black fruit, and firm tannins to the wines.
