Dow's Port is one of the most important wineries in Oporto. Founded in 1798 by the Portuguese merchant Bruno da Silva, who settled in London to sell his wines and quickly became a substantial part of the sector in the English capital, since 1961 and to this day, the firm has been owned by the Symington family, members of the exclusive association Primum Familiae Vini, which brings together the 11 leading wine families from around the world, including Mouton Rothschild from Bordeaux, Sassicaia from Tuscany, and Pol Roger from Champagne.
The house, located in Vila Nova de Gaia, owns five of the best vineyards in the Douro Valley, namely Quinta do Bomfim, Quinta de Cerdeira, Quinta da Fonte Branca, Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, and Quinta do Santinho, with a total area of 133 hectares. From their fruit are born concentrated, elegant, and aromatic wines, with a characteristic dry finish that wins over both the public and critics. Notably, one of their creations, Dow’s Vintage Port 2011, was chosen, among 5,400 references, as the best wine of 2014 by the prestigious magazine Wine Spectator.
