With grapes sourced from the Douro Valley and aged in the renowned town of Vila Nova de Gaia, the secret of Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny's production lies in the excellent balance between grape varieties and aging, carried out by the renowned Master Blender José Nogueira.
Founded in 1842, Niepoort is one of the most renowned wineries in the production of Port wines. A family business where the current fifth generation has managed to adapt to new markets while respecting the traditional winemaking methods of their ancestors, through the recovery of vineyards and traditional winemaking techniques.
With 91 Parker points, Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny is perfect for pairing with aged cheeses and desserts based on chocolate, nuts, or coffee. Served slightly below the recommended temperature, it becomes an excellent option to serve as an aperitif, especially with foie.
It displays a deep, intense golden color.
On the nose, it reveals aromas of candied fruits, with orange notes and dried apricots. Subtle hints of nuts emerge in the finish.
On the palate, it stands out for its body, balance, and pleasant texture with a sweet undertone.
Niepoort was founded in 1842 by Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, a Dutchman who emigrated to Portugal with the aim of creating a company that initially focused on the commercialization of Port wines. Gradually, they began producing their own wines by purchasing grapes from small growers, and today they own Quinta de Nápoles and Quinta do Carril in Cima Corgo (Douro Valley), renowned for the exceptional quality of their grapes.
With a family tradition, today Eduard Dirk Niepoort and Verena Niepoort represent the fifth generation leading the winery. Their curiosity about the terroir of the Douro has defined Niepoort’s spirit over the last two decades. The acquisition of estate-owned vineyards, respect for indigenous varieties, and vineyard replanting projects have provided this winery with some of the best raw materials for crafting both fortified and unfortified wines.
