General Information

Touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta roriz, tinta cao, and tinta barroca, five of the main native Portuguese grape varieties, make up the carefully crafted coupage that is Martínez Quinta da Eira Velha 1998, a magnificent single quinta vintage port, which is to say, a wine of the highest quality within this esteemed category of Portuguese wines.

As its label indicates, this port was made exclusively from grapes harvested in 1998 at Quinta da Eira Velha, an estate founded in the 18th century and controlled until the year 2000 by Martínez Gassiot, a prestigious century-old firm of Spanish-English origin. Martínez Quinta da Eira Velha 1998 underwent 24 months of aging, which endowed it with great complexity marked by roasted notes and an intense, vibrant palate. Enjoy it on its own or, especially, alongside chocolate and caramel desserts.

The winery

Martínez Gassiot is a Port wine-producing winery founded in 1790 by Sebastián González Martínez, a Spaniard who began his journey as a merchant in London. In 1822, he partnered with the Englishman John Peter Gassiot, and in 1834 they purchased their first winery in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Since 2006, the company has been owned by the Symington family, one of the most important and influential dynasties in the world of wine. Born from the finest vineyards of the most famous quintas located along the Douro River, Martínez Gassiot’s Ports are characterized by their unique delicacy.
