General Information

Rótulo Branco 2020 is a delicate white wine made from the coupage of four traditional grape varieties in Dão, three of which were rescued thanks to the vineyard recovery project initiated by Niepoort wineries a few years ago. With the aim of putting almost forgotten varieties back on the map - the borrado das moscas (bical), the rabo de ovelha, and the sercial - the Niepoort family went beyond the traditional production with encruzado, creating this unique blend made using the traditional method. Twelve months of resting in concrete tanks along with its fine lees rounded off its vinification and gave it great silkiness on the palate.

Niepoort, one of the great wineries of Vila Nova de Gaia, has excellent vineyards throughout the northern half of Portugal. Their initiative to recover varieties and their commitment to biodiversity allows them to produce unique and singular wines that reflect the exceptional viticulture of the area, such as Rótulo Branco 2020, an exceptional wine to start with, whose subtlety allows it to be enjoyed alone or accompanying the tasting of mild cheeses.

Tasting notes

In sight, it shows a beautiful pale lemon color. Clean and bright.

With shy aromas on the nose, pleasant notes of pear and white flowers are discovered.

It is a full-bodied wine, silky and with a balanced structure between acidity and alcohol. Its finish is long, with sensations of fruits and fresh herbs.

The winery

Winery

Niepoort was founded in 1842 by Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, a Dutchman who emigrated to Portugal with the aim of creating a company that initially focused on the commercialization of Port wines. Gradually, they began producing their own wines by purchasing grapes from small growers, and today they own Quinta de Nápoles and Quinta do Carril in Cima Corgo (Douro Valley), renowned for the exceptional quality of their grapes.

With a family tradition, today Eduard Dirk Niepoort and Verena Niepoort represent the fifth generation leading the winery. Their curiosity about the terroir of the Douro has defined Niepoort’s spirit over the last two decades. The acquisition of estate-owned vineyards, respect for indigenous varieties, and vineyard replanting projects have provided this winery with some of the best raw materials for crafting both fortified and unfortified wines.
