The rabo de ovelha grape variety is mainly cultivated in the Portuguese region of Douro, with presence in the Vinho Verde region and the wine-growing areas in the south of the country (Ribatejo and Alentejo). With medium-sized clusters and small yellowish-green berries, it is a variety highly sensitive to powdery mildew and downy mildew.
Usually used in blends, rabo de ovelha contributes to the wines with high alcohol content, along with good longevity and high acidity. Wines produced from this grape variety exhibit subtle aromas, with floral, vegetal, and mineral notes.
