Alella

The D.O. extends across the Barcelona regions of Maresme and Vallès, encompassing the municipalities of Alella, Argentona, Cabrils, El Masnou, La Roca del Vallès, Martorelles, Montornès del Vallès, Montgat, Orrius, Premià de Dalt, Premià de Mar, Santa María de Martorelles, Sant Fost de Campsentelles, Teià, Tiana, Vallromanes, Vilanova del Vallès, Vilasar de Dalt.

White wines are the stars of the region, especially those made from pansa blanca, the local name for the xarel·lo variety, traditionally used in cava.

The main grape varieties cultivated are garnacha blanca, garnacha tinta, moscatel, mataró, pansa blanca, pansa rosada, and picapoll. There is also room for international grape varieties.

Climate
Typical Mediterranean microclimate, with mild winters and dry, warm summers. The sierra acts as a shield against the winds and condenses the moisture coming from the sea.
Soil
On the inner slope of the coastal range, the soils are clayey. Those facing the sea (known as "sauló") are almost white in color, highly permeable, and have a great capacity to retain sunlight, promoting grape ripening.
