Professional career
Pelayo de la Mata y Pobes began his career at Seagrams Corporation (New York), working in the Trade Studies Department. In 1972, he joined Varma as Marketing Director. Since 2004, he has been the president of Grupo Vinícola Marqués de Vargas, with wineries in D.O.Ca. Rioja, D.O. Ribera del Duero, and D.O. Rías Baixas.
