Since the late 16th century, the architectural complex presiding over Pazo San Mauro, in Salvaterra do Miño, has featured a space dedicated to the vine. However, it was not until 1988 that the possibility of producing quality wines from the native albariño variety was conceived. Since 2003, the estate has belonged to the Grupo Vinícola Marqués de Vargas, a Rioja-based firm that has undertaken significant investments in the restoration of the buildings and the construction of a brand-new winery.
