Bodega VidAs is one of the leading names in Asturian wine, and its Siete Vidas 2023 is the ideal red to explore this lesser-known production area. Made with 90% mencía and albarín negro varieties, complemented by a touch of carrasquín and verdejo negro, part of the grapes were left unstemmed and uncrushed during its production. Fermentation began with native yeasts, and both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations took place in stainless steel tanks. The result is a fresh and light Atlantic-style red wine that reveals pleasant aromas of red fruits and a delicate subtlety and meatiness on the palate. An easy-drinking red that follows the tradition of the D.O.P. Cangas, adapted to modern tastes.
Bodega VidAs is one of the driving forces behind the recovery of the D.O.P. Cangas. Beatriz Pérez and Pepe Flórez are the visible heads of a project that came to life in 2012, in the Asturian municipality of Cangas del Narcea.
Convinced of the winegrowing potential of southwestern Asturias, Pérez and Flórez brought together five other partners around a clear idea: to create a quality winery that offered unique wines, with limited production, made from recovered native varieties such as albarín blanco, albarín negro, mencía, verdejo negro, or carrasquín, showcasing the distinct identity of a centuries-old tradition.
Currently, Bodega VidAs manages 4 hectares of vineyards in the D.O.P. Cangas. The location of the vineyards on mountainous and steep terrains, with slopes exceeding 30% incline that prevent the use of any machinery, has earned their wines the recognition of heroic viticulture, similar to those originating from Galicia's Ribeira Sacra and Catalonia's Priorat. The unique vineyard setting and the area's humid climate with moderate temperatures give their wines a distinctive Atlantic character.
