General Information

Leonor Palo Cortado combines in a single wine the subtle and elegant aromas of toasted nuts, typical of amontillados, with a round and deep palate, characteristic of olorosos. González Byass crafts this magnificent palo cortado from a selection of palomino fino grapes from the best vineyards in the Jerez region.

Only the mosto yema obtained from the first pressing of the grapes is used by the Andalusian winery in Leonor Palo Cortado. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks and clarification, the wine is fortified and transferred to the Leonor solera oak casks to age for 12 years.

The final result in the glass is an excellent fortified wine from the D.O. Jerez-Xérès-Sherry that has received numerous awards, including gold medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine Challenge, and a silver medal at the Concurso Internacional de Vinos Espirituosos (CINVE). The exceptional richness of nuances it presents recommends a slow and unhurried tasting, either on its own or to accompany red and game meats.

Tasting notes

Displays a mahogany color with golden tones and an orange rim.

In the olfactory phase, it stands out for the great variety of nuances, ranging from citrus aromas of bitter orange to butter, including nuts (toasted almond and hazelnut) and old wood.

Balanced, intense, and persistent on the palate with toasted nuances. Smooth passage and a powerful, sweet finish.

The winery

González Byass

In 1835, the entrepreneur Manuel María González Angel arrived in Jerez with the intention of doing business with the growing demand for Sherry from England. He acquired a small winery that, by 1955, was overwhelmed by its success. Manuel María González partnered with his agent in England, Mr. Robert Blake Byass, thus founding the company González-Byassz. Today, it is the fifth generation of the González family who lead this family heritage business.

Currently, the González Byass group is made up of a wide range of wineries producing in the most emblematic and important denominations of origin in Spain (with Beronia in the D.O.Ca. Rioja; Viñas del Vero in the D.O. Somontano; Vilarnau in Catalonia; Finca Constancia in Toledo, Finca Moncloa in Cádiz, Pazos de Lusco in the D.O. Rías Baixas, and the Tío Pepe winery in Jerez).Among the products offered by the group, the emblematic wines of Jerez, their cavas, brandies, anises, liqueurs, gin, oils, vinegars, spirits, among others, stand out.
