Penedès
The D.O. is located in the province of Barcelona and is divided into three subzones: Penedès Superior (the coolest area, where the Parellada variety thrives), Penedès Central or Medio (where Xarel.lo and Macabeo are predominant), and Bajo Penedès (the area closest to the sea, producing wines with a distinct Mediterranean character).
Climate
Mediterranean type, generally mild and warm, warmer in the Bajo Penedès due to maritime influence and warmer in the middle and upper Penedès, with greater thermal contrast between maximum and minimum temperatures, more frequent frosts, and more intense rainfall that can reach up to 990 liters per square meter.
Soil
Limestone-based soils mixed with some sand and clay, low in organic matter and not very fertile.
