The D.O. Cigales extends to the north of the Duero River basin and on both sides of the Pisuerga River (covering an area of 574 km2). The geographical indication includes the Pago El Berrocal in Valladolid, the town of Dueñas in Palencia, as well as Cabezón de Pisuerga, Cigales, Corcos del Valle, Cubillas de Santa Marta, Fuensaldaña, Mucientes, Quintanilla de Trigueros, San Martín de Valvení, Trigueros del Valle, and Valoria la Buena.
Climate
Continental type with Atlantic influences. Large thermal variations between day and night throughout the year. Summers are very dry and winters are very cold (with frosts and fog) and long. Rainfall is quite irregular.
Soil
Formed by sands, limestones, and gredas resting on clays and marls. The limestone content is highly variable, depending on the areas.
