The magazine Sobremesa, the leading Spanish publication specializing in wine and gastronomy, is edited by the Vinoselección group, the oldest and most prestigious wine club in Spain. In 2009, it celebrated its 25th anniversary. Its Tasting Panel is composed of the most renowned professionals in the wine world: specialized journalists such as Jose Luis Casado and Álex Calvo; sommeliers like María José Huertas, Jesús Flores, and Kasia Romanska; and oenologists such as Jaime Bermúdez (Technical Director of Vinoselección), who have blind-tasted thousands of wines. Each month, the magazine publishes a ranking of the best wines, and annually, a ranking of the top-rated wines from all the tastings conducted. Additionally, an annual guide is published, compiling the results of the wines most highly rated by the Sobremesa tasting team. The guide Saber de vino es fácil (Ed. Temas de Hoy) features the labels that have reached the highest positions on Sobremesa's tasting panel list, as well as practical advice to bring the world of wine closer to enthusiasts.
Sobremesa's tastings follow a ritual governed by the protocol of professional blind tastings (i.e., without the tasters knowing which wine they are evaluating). Each taster individually assesses the wine and records their impressions on a tasting sheet that includes notes on the visual, olfactory, and gustatory aspects of each sample. Blind tasting ensures the absolute independence of the taster, eliminating the possibility of being influenced by a subjective affinity for the winery, for example. Only at the end of the tasting session is it possible to discover which wine corresponds to each sample. In the last year, the monthly tastings published in the magazine have incorporated notes on the label and bottle design. Scores range from 0 to 100 points.
