The Vivanco family's connection to wine dates back to 1915, when Pedro Vivanco González, a winemaker with vineyards in Alberite, began producing wine for family consumption and started selling his surplus in Logroño. His son Santiago continued his work, purchasing more vineyards and selling wine retail in a shop in Logroño. Pedro Vivanco Paracuellos, Santiago's son, is the driving force behind the winery we know today: he grew up among vineyards, studied oenology, and worked in wine trading before founding his dream winery, Vivanco, which soon became an international reference for wine culture thanks to the founder's passion for collecting. His collections are the foundation of the Vivanco Foundation, the museum, and the impressive archive the winery holds.
Today, Rafael Vivanco Sáenz, Pedro's son, is responsible for guiding the destiny of a winery that is much more than that, producing a modern line of wines and serving as the headquarters for one of Spain's most important cultural projects related to wine.
At the beginning of this century, the Vivanco family acquired the century-old winery Carlos Serres, also located in Rioja.
