In Haro, where the wine tradition has beaten for more than a century, a white wine emerges that champions the brightest essence of Rioja. Made exclusively for Vinoselección, Carlos Serres Edición 125 Aniversario 2025 celebrates the history of a pioneering winery and the sensibility of a project that has managed to unite past and modernity. Its fresh character, its balance and its privileged origin make it an irresistible invitation to discover the Rioja white wine that is the most authentic.

Carlos Serres Edición 125 Aniversario 2025 has that clean, elegant air that catches the eye from the very first moment. It is a white wine from the D.O.Ca. Rioja that combines Viura and Tempranillo Blanco, a well‑thought‑out union to give freshness, personality and a very lively aroma profile.

The winemaking aims to respect the fruit as much as possible: hand-harvest, brief cold maceration, controlled fermentation and two months of ageing on lees. In the glass it delivers a very pleasant impression, with notes of apple, pineapple and white flowers, and a balanced, fresh and long palate, the kind that invites you to keep pouring the conversation.

The grapes come from agreements with viticulturists in Haro and Briones, and also from the El Estanque estate, in Haro, where calcareous-clay soils with gravels help to express the traditional varieties well. Behind it is Bodegas Carlos Serres, a historic house founded in 1896 and today renewed by the Vivanco family, which combines tradition, vineyard care and a clear commitment to sustainability.

Making process

Winemaking

After a brief cold maceration of the whole grape, the lágrima must of Viura and Tempranillo Blanco ferments for 15 days at a controlled temperature, between 12 and 15 °C, to preserve all its varietal expression. The winemaking relies on concrete tanks, chosen by the winery to enhance the fruit and promote a very gentle micro-oxygenation, and afterwards the wine remains two months in tank, refining on its lees and gaining body without losing freshness.

Aging

This white wine from Carlos Serres was made with a short cold maceration of the whole grapes, and after the fermentation of the free-run must for 15 days at a controlled temperature, it remained for two months in tanks ageing on the lees.

Vineyard

Description

Carlos Serres Edición 125 2025 originates from the El Estanque estate, in Haro, a 60-hectare vineyard on calcareous-loam soils with gravel, conditions that favour the cultivation of the traditional varieties and add precision to the wine’s profile. The grapes also come from agreements with viticulturists in the Haro and Briones area, with continuous monitoring of the vineyard throughout the vegetative cycle, contributing to preserving fruit quality from the outset.

The coupage is produced with Viura and Tempranillo Blanco, in a blend where the latter gives a distinctive personality, with intense fruity and floral aromas. Manual harvest and ageing on lees reinforce a fresh, very fruity result with a long and pleasant persistence, faithful to the character of Rioja whites.

Viticulture

Enjoy Carlos Serres Edición 125 Aniversario 2025, produced from vines managed jointly by the winery and an exclusive group of viticulturists from the Haro and Briones area, with continuous monitoring throughout the growing cycle to safeguard grape quality. Viticulture is supported by a sustainable approach, backed by the Wineries for Climate Protection seal, and rests on calcareous-loam soils with gravels at the El Estanque estate, which favour the cultivation of traditional varieties such as Viura and Tempranillo Blanco. In addition, manual harvest allows selecting each bunch at the optimal moment, preserving the fresh, fruity expression that defines this Rioja white.

Tasting notes

Nose

Carlos Serres Edición 125 Aniversario 2025 shows a clean and expressive aroma, with fresh notes of apple and pineapple that give an immediate impression of liveliness. Then subtle hints of white flowers appear, which refine the overall impression and give a more delicate profile. The blend of Viura and Tempranillo Blanco reinforces this aromatic impression, with a well-defined fruity and floral character.

Mouth

On the palate it is fresh, fruity and very well-balanced. Born from the century-old tradition of Bodegas Carlos Serres in Haro, this Rioja white combines Viura and Tempranillo Blanco to yield a lively, clean and well-defined profile. Aging on lees adds body and roundness, while the acidity keeps the ensemble lively. The result is a tasty mouthfeel, with an harmonious profile, and a long, pleasant persistence.

The winery

Bodegas Carlos Serres

The historic winery Carlos Serres is named after its founder, a renowned wine consultant born in Orleans, who was a pioneer in settling in Rioja after the arrival of phylloxera in France. Amazed by the winemaking conditions offered by Rioja, Carlos Serres founded his own winery in the Barrio de la Estación of Haro in 1896. From there, he became a precursor of wine aging following the Bordeaux model. He also stood out as a pioneer in the export of Rioja wine. In the year 2000, the Vivanco family acquired 100% of Bodegas Carlos Serres, leading to a significant renewal of the winery's wines and the construction of new facilities in the municipality of Haro, but outside the Barrio de la Estación.

The wines of Carlos Serres are made with grapes from the El Estanque estate, which spans 60 hectares and is located in Haro (La Rioja), as is the winery itself. The soils of the estate, clay-limestone with the presence of gravel, are ideal for cultivating traditional grape varieties. The winery is committed to using concrete tanks for winemaking, aiming to maximize the fruity expression of each variety (the porosity of concrete allows for micro-oxygenation).

In July 2020, Bodegas Carlos Serres achieved the Wineries for Climate Protection certification. This seal recognizes the commitment to sustainability and environmental care, currently held by only 27 wineries in Spain.
