Vivanco Lías Finas 2025 originates from one of the most innovative and renowned wineries in Rioja. An original white that blends Viura with two minority Rioja varieties: Tempranillo Blanco and Maturana. Its ageing on the lees provides body, a silky texture and an appealing complexity.

Vivanco Lías Finas 2025 is the latest innovative initiative from Bodegas Vivanco. A white wine that blends Viura with two native and minority Rioja varieties, Tempranillo Blanco and Maturana Blanca, and which incorporates ageing on fine lees for over four months. This technique adds more body, texture and complexity, as well as enhancing the aromatic expression of each variety and favouring its ageing potential. The label is illustrated with Milhojas, a work by Maite Meno Fariñas selected for the X edition of the Pedro Vivanco International Prize for Engraving and Wine.

In the hands of the fourth generation of the Vivanco family, Bodegas Vivanco has established itself as one of the leading promoters of vitivinicultural knowledge, with initiatives such as the Vivanco Museum of the Wine Culture, regarded as a world reference. Innovation is another of its pillars.

The 2014 vintage marked a turning point for Vivanco's white wine: for the first time a Rioja white wine included in its blend the minority varieties Tempranillo Blanco and Maturana Blanca, together with Viura, to produce a wine unique in the world. The 2024 harvest represented another step forward by adding ageing on lees.

Making process

Vintage

Tempranillo Blanco is harvested in the second week of September, with the remaining varieties harvested at the end of the same month. Grapes are hand-harvested in small crates. All the grapes stay in a cold chamber for 24 hours before processing on a sorting table.

Winemaking

Each variety is vinified separately. After a brief cold maceration (6-10 hours), the free-run must is fermented in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (12-15 °C) to preserve the full varietal expression. The wines obtained remain in contact with their lees in the tank for 4 months to preserve the varietal aromas and provide greater harmony and creaminess on the palate.

Vivanco is located in Briones, one of the most privileged spots in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, and is run by the Vivanco family, now in its fourth generation of winemakers. Vivanco is today a temple of the latest winemaking technology. It also stands out for being one of the wineries most dedicated to promoting knowledge of wine culture and enotourism, as evidenced by the creation of its Foundation and the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, the most important wine museum in the world.

The winery is designed to maximize the natural and unique character of its different vineyards and varieties in its wines. All grapes undergo a quality control process through a double selection table for clusters and berries, starting with cold maceration and followed by fermentation in small French oak vats. The result is a range of modern, bold, and characterful wines that embody the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of the winery.

In the 2022 edition of the World’s Best Vineyards awards, Vivanco was included among the 50 most amazing wine projects in the world, ranking 44th.
