General Information

Colección Vivanco Parcelas de Garnacha 2019 (Excellent vintage) is a single-varietal garnacha aged for 18 months in 500-liter second-year French oak barrels. A red wine with a limited production of 1,300 bottles.

In Briones, in Rioja Alta, you will find Bodegas Dinastía Vivanco, one of the wineries that has been working the hardest to promote the knowledge of the history and culture of Rioja winemaking since its beginnings, thanks to its foundation and one of the best wine museums in the world. A winery that Vinoselección has followed closely since its inception and has seen grow into what it is today, an international benchmark.

Therefore, in July 2022, on the occasion of a wine selection for the Thyssen Collection, the winery gave us the opportunity to also taste its flagship wines, among which were those included in the Colección Vivanco, a personal challenge of Rafael Vivanco.

After enjoying different parcels and ranges of top wines from Dinastía Vivanco, we fell in love with the one the winery produces with garnachas from the municipalities of Villamediana and Tudelilla, one of the key areas for cultivating high-quality Rioja garnachas.

In January 2023, we resumed conversations with the Vivanco family to officially define the red wine we present to you: Colección Vivanco Parcelas de Garnacha 2019. Ideal to pair with stuffed piquillo peppers or a beef stew with potatoes.

Tasting notes

Garnet cherry color with a ruby rim, of good depth.

It presents a complex and expressive nose, where aromas of red fruit (currant) stand out, giving way to floral, balsamic notes and a spicy background.

With great amplitude, flavorful, with a fine and elegant palate and showing excellent balance. The finish is long and persistent.

The winery

Bodegas Vivanco

Vivanco is located in Briones, one of the most privileged spots in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, and is run by the Vivanco family, now in its fourth generation of winemakers. Vivanco is today a temple of the latest winemaking technology. It also stands out for being one of the wineries most dedicated to promoting knowledge of wine culture and enotourism, as evidenced by the creation of its Foundation and the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, the most important wine museum in the world.

The winery is designed to maximize the natural and unique character of its different vineyards and varieties in its wines. All grapes undergo a quality control process through a double selection table for clusters and berries, starting with cold maceration and followed by fermentation in small French oak vats. The result is a range of modern, bold, and characterful wines that embody the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of the winery.

In the 2022 edition of the World’s Best Vineyards awards, Vivanco was included among the 50 most amazing wine projects in the world, ranking 44th.
