White Rioja wines are on the rise. Vivanco, which has innovation running through its veins, was one of the pioneering wineries that added native and minority varieties such as Tempranillo Blanco and Maturana Blanca to the classic Viura grape. This unique white wine was created in 2014. Ten vintages later, Vivanco Lías Finas 2024 came out with another new feature: ageing on fine lees. This is an essential white wine for getting a feel for the new wave of Rioja whites that are proving to be so popular with the public and critics alike. It's fresh and very pleasant, with personality and complexity.

General Information

Vivanco Lías Finas 2024 combines the traditional variety used in Rioja whites, Viura (50%), with two other native and minority Rioja grapes: 35% Tempranillo Blanco and 15% Maturana Blanca. The grapes were harvested by hand and kept in cold storage for 24 hours before being processed on a sorting table.

Each variety was vinified separately. After a short period of cold maceration (between 6-10 hours), the free-run juice was fermented in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (12-15 ºC) to preserve all the varietal expression. The resulting wines remained in contact with their lees in tanks for four months to preserve the varietal aromas and give them greater harmony and creaminess on the palate.

A staunch defender of wine culture, the Vivanco family, now in its fourth generation, runs this winery located in Briones (Rioja Alta), one of the most sought-after areas of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Bodegas Vivanco is known for being one of the firms that puts the most effort into promoting wine culture and wine tourism. Take, for instance, the Museo Vivanco de la Cultura del Vino, the most important wine museum in the world with pieces ranging from ancient Egyptian objects to artworks by Dürer, Chagall, Picasso, Sorolla, Andy Warhol and Miró. It also has a garden planted with more than 200 varieties of grapevines from five continents.

For several years Bodegas Vivanco has ranked among the Top 50 World's Best Vineyards as one of the most amazing winemaking ventures in the world. It's also characterised by its commitment to its own vineyards and native varieties, and is at the forefront of winemaking technology. The winery was designed to maximise the natural and unique character of its different vineyards and varieties in its wines. All the grapes are sorted doubly, by bunches and berries, and small French oak vats are used for fermentation. The firm produces a range of modern wines in keeping with the innovative character of the winery.

The white wine Vivanco Lías Finas 2024 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with Ibérico ham appetisers or tuna ravioli. The label reproduces the work ‘Milhojas’ by Maite Meno Fariñas, selected from among the entries for the 10th Pedro Vivanco international engraving and wine award.

Bodegas Vivanco

Vivanco is located in Briones, one of the most privileged spots in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, and is run by the Vivanco family, now in its fourth generation of winemakers. Vivanco is today a temple of the latest winemaking technology. It also stands out for being one of the wineries most dedicated to promoting knowledge of wine culture and enotourism, as evidenced by the creation of its Foundation and the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, the most important wine museum in the world.

The winery is designed to maximize the natural and unique character of its different vineyards and varieties in its wines. All grapes undergo a quality control process through a double selection table for clusters and berries, starting with cold maceration and followed by fermentation in small French oak vats. The result is a range of modern, bold, and characterful wines that embody the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of the winery.

In the 2022 edition of the World’s Best Vineyards awards, Vivanco was included among the 50 most amazing wine projects in the world, ranking 44th.
