Vivanco Crianza 2021
A modern, fresh and fruity Crianza
Vivanco is one of Rioja's most important and innovative wineries, particularly renowned for its defence of wine culture; in fact, it boasts the world's most important wine museum. Modern and full of personality, Vivanco Crianza 2021 features one of the works exhibited in the museum on its label: ‘Le Troubadour’ by Joan Miró. The grapes come from a selection of the winery's own vineyards, a total of 20 plots combined in a red wine that showcases the diversity of the Rioja landscape. Fresh and luscious, with an elegant, persistent and very balanced palate.
General information
Vivanco Crianza 2021 is made chiefly from Tempranillo grapes, with a touch of Maturana and Graciano. It comes from a vintage that ripened slowly, producing wines with abundant fruity aromas and great ageing potential. A perfect harvest for producing this Crianza. It’s the result of a selection of the winery’s own vineyards in the terroirs of Briones, San Vicente, Alesón (Finca San Antón), Villamediana-Agoncillo and Tudelilla, spread over 20 plots with different altitudes, soils and orientations.
Harvesting was carried out manually. After gentle pressing, the must was transferred by gravity to small French oak vats where it fermented and macerated in contact with the skins at a maximum temperature of 28 °C. Malolactic fermentation took place in small French oak vats. Finally, the wine was aged for 16 months in French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels.
A staunch defender of wine culture, the Vivanco family, now in its fourth generation, runs this winery located in Briones (Rioja Alta), one of the most sought-after areas of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Bodegas Vivanco is known for being one of the firms that puts the most effort into promoting wine culture and wine tourism. Take, for instance, the Museo Vivanco de la Cultura del Vino, the most important wine museum in the world with pieces ranging from ancient Egyptian objects to artworks by Dürer, Chagall, Picasso, Sorolla, Andy Warhol and Miró. It also has a garden planted with more than 200 varieties of grapevines from five continents.
For several years Bodegas Vivanco has ranked among the Top 50 World's Best Vineyards as one of the most amazing winemaking ventures in the world. It's also characterised by its commitment to its own vineyards and native varieties, and is at the forefront of winemaking technology. The winery was designed to maximise the natural and unique character of its different vineyards and varieties in its wines. All the grapes are sorted doubly, by bunches and berries, and small French oak vats are used for fermentation. The firm produces a range of modern wines in keeping with the innovative character of the winery.
The label of the red wine Vivanco Crianza 2021 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) reproduces Joan Miró's work ‘Le Troubadour’, which is on display at the Vivanco museum. This red wine is ideal with roast suckling pig or bean stew.
