General Information
Originating from Alsace and the Moselle basin, the gewürztraminer is a grape still little known by the Spanish consumer, with a small share of vineyards in our country, mainly located in Penedès and Somontano. Viñas del Vero Gewürztraminer 2023 is one of the best varietals found in our country.
The fruits of gewürztraminer come from the “El Enebro” estate of Viñas del Vero, planted in 1990, with optimal soil and microclimate characteristics for the gewürztraminer grape (loam soil, altitude of 400 m with north orientation). Additionally, the “El Enebro” estate is located only three minutes from the winery, allowing the grapes to be transported quickly and in the most optimal state.
Viñas del Vero (1986) was one of the three major wineries driving this revolution in Somontano (along with Enate and Pirineos) and the pioneering winery in the cultivation of international varieties, as well as being one of the most innovative wineries in Spain. Today, the wines of Viñas del Vero are recognized as the highest exponents of quality in the D.O. Somontano.
Viñas del Vero -currently owned by the powerful González Byass group- remains the leading brand of the D.O. Somontano both in production volume and viticultural heritage. It has one of the largest vineyards in the country, with over 1000 hectares of vines, produces more than six million bottles, and its wines are exported to fifty countries. Viñas del Vero Gewürztraminer 2023 can pair perfectly with good yellow curry prawns with vegetables or chicken skewers marinated with soy sauce.
Tasting notes
Beautiful pale straw yellow color with greenish iridescence, bright crystalline.
On the nose, it is complex, enveloping, and very aromatic, highlighting notes of flower petals and exotic fruit.
On the palate, the attack is velvety and pleasant, with a sweet and unctuous point that is perfectly counterbalanced by its freshness and great expressiveness.
The winery
Established in Barbastro in 1986, Viñas del Vero is the leading winery in Somontano in terms of production volume and one of those that has most promoted the name of this Denomination of Origin around the world. Currently, the winery belongs to the international group González-Byass. Viñas del Vero manages one of the largest vineyards in the country, with 500 hectares owned and an additional 515 hectares under control, producing around six million bottles a year, which are distributed to about fifty countries.
The first wines from Viñas del Vero were produced in an experimental winery in Salas Bajas and were launched on the market in the spring of 1990. Earlier, in 1987, the company had acquired the San Marcos estate for the construction of a new winery, which was inaugurated in July 1993. Today, Viñas del Vero is considered one of the most innovative brands in this country thanks to the quality and diversity of its wines.
