Valparaíso Crianza 2021 comes from a vintage with the highest rating in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. It was grown entirely on Tempranillo vines with an average age of over 30 years, planted in clay-loam soils that are conducive to the production of wines with body and structure. The vineyard’s extreme climate – long, very cold winters and short, very hot summers – greatly influences ripening levels and pigmentation.
The grapes were de-stemmed and fermented in contact with the skins at an average temperature of 28ºC. The wine then remained in contact with the skins for 7 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in new medium-toast French oak barrels. Finally, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels where it was aged for 13 months. Bodegas Valparaíso was established in 2000 in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos). The facilities are located on a hill overlooking the village, and it is supplied by 70 hectares of vines, mostly Tempranillo, part of which date back to the early twentieth century and are gobelet-trained.
This old vineyard is close to the winery, in Quintana del Pidio, while the new, trellised vineyards are located in another of the most highly prized parts of the Denominación: in Pesquera (Valladolid), at an altitude of 925 m; and in Sotillo (Burgos), at 825 m. The grapes from each vineyard are fermented separately, and blending is carried out at the beginning of the ageing process. The cellar contains barrels made of French (25%) and American (75%) oak.
The red wine Valparaíso Crianza 2021 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal with dishes made from legumes and meat.
Bodegas Valparaíso was founded with the idea of creating modern and high-quality wines. For this reason, production is kept at a very low volume, aiming to produce authentic wines from Ribera del Duero. The winery has the capacity to produce 300,000 bottles annually.
Its journey began in the year 2000 in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos). The facilities are located on a hill overlooking the village and are supplied by 60 hectares of their own vineyards, mostly planted with tempranillo, some of which date back to the early 20th century and are planted in goblet style.
This old vineyard is located near the winery in Quintana del Pidio, while the new trellised vineyards are found in some of the most highly regarded areas of the appellation: in Pesquera (Valladolid) at an altitude of 925 m, and in Sotillo (Burgos) at 825 m. The grapes from each vineyard ferment separately, and the blending is done at the beginning of the aging process. In the barrel room, French oak (25%) and American oak (75%) coexist.
