In the past few years the Garnacha wines from the Gredos mountains have enjoyed a major resurgence that has brought the area into the international spotlight. This revival involved renewing and recovering old vines, many of which had been abandoned. The part of Gredos located in the Madrid region is home to Paraje de los Vidrios Garnacha 2018, an intense red with good varietal expression and woodland, wild berry, floral and balsamic aromas and a marvellously fresh and complex palate. A serious, fine wine with a score of 90 Parker points.
Paraje de los Vidrios Garnacha 2018 is made wholly from Garnacha grapes grown on the 20 hectares of vineyards distributed into different plots in Cadalso de los Vidrios and San Martín de Valdeiglesias. The vines are between 60 and 100 years old and grow at an altitude of 800–900 m in poor, granitic, sandy soils. The vines are organically farmed in accordance with biodynamic principles with full respect for the environment. And horses are used to work the land.
2018 was an excellent year, much cooler than usual, resulting in wine with greater freshness, acidity and complexity. Each plot was harvested when the grapes were at their ripest.
The berries were not crushed before being processed and 50% of the bunches were complete with stems. They underwent pre-fermentative maceration for 4 days at 12ºC to extract the aromas, followed by fermentation at 22ºC in stainless steel and concrete vats with native yeast, to bring out the characteristic flavours in the grapes. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation was carried out in 500-litre French oak barrels and the wine was finally aged for 9 months in 500-litre French oak barrels.

Paraje de los Vidrios Garnacha 2018 (D.O. Vinos de Madrid) is perfect with fillet of beef in a reduction of red wine, and is just as good with Mediterranean rice dishes with chicken and lamb.
