Solanera 2023 is the flagship of Bodegas Castaño and one of the greatest jewels of the D.O. Yecla. A red wine that has received critical acclaim and achieved notable success in the North American market.
Solanera 2023 – 70% Monastrell, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Tintorera – originates from old dry-farmed vineyards with very low yields, producing small, concentrated grapes. Although close to the sea, the vines are situated at 750 metres above sea level, and this freshness ensures a slower, more balanced ripening. It has been aged for 10 months in French oak (70%) and American oak (30%) barrels.
The D.O. Yecla has finally found its place beyond our borders and is now conquering the domestic market thanks to the quality of its Monastrell reds, the principal grape of Levante. When speaking of this Murcian denomination, there is an essential estate: Castaño. A leading name in the region, Bodegas Castaño was, fifty years ago, the first project of one of the most important wine families in this country.

Vintage
At the optimal ripeness of each grape variety, the harvest is carried out in the vineyard through manual selection into 15 kg boxes for each variety: Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Garnacha Tintorera.
Winemaking
After arriving at the winery, the grapes are manually sorted on a table, selecting the best bunches for processing in a small destemmer without crushing. Pumping over is done manually in small stainless steel tanks of 8,000 and 10,000 kg, with temperature controlled within a range of 24 to 28ºC. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, and skin maceration lasts for 8 days. Gentle pneumatic pressing is then applied.
