Sílice 2022 is an excellent example of the red wines born in Ribeira Sacra, despite being produced outside the D.O. Originating from vineyards planted in the Sil River canyon, on soils of granite, sand, and slate, this coupage of mencía, albarello, garnacha tintorera, and merenzao is the calling card of Sílice Viticultores, a young winery that is already standing out with high scores. Marked by its minerality and notable presence of acidic and flavorful red fruit.

Tasting notes

In appearance, the red wine Sílice shows a medium-layer cherry red color, clean and bright.

Medium intensity on the nose with aromas of fresh red fruit (cherry, plum), wild berries, balsamic notes, and herbs. Mineral background reminiscent of damp earth.

Soft entry on the palate, with a broad passage and a long finish. It is a fresh, light wine with good acidity and balance, featuring pronounced mineral notes.

The winery

Sílice Viticultores is the wine project of the Galician brothers Carlos and Juan Manuel Rodríguez and the winemaker based in Priorat, Fredi Torres. Convinced of the spectacular potential of the vertical vineyards of Ribeira Sacra, the three partners founded a small winery in 2013 in the municipality of Sober, located in the province of Lugo. With the fruit of 2 hectares of vineyards, partly owned and partly rented, they began producing fine and elegant wines outside the Designation of Origin.

The practice of environmentally respectful viticulture and artisanal winemaking, rooted in tradition, are the hallmarks of Sílice Viticultores, which has quickly led them to success. In 2017, their red wine Finca Lobeiras was awarded the Revelation Wine distinction at the Instituto Galego do Viño awards, and specialized critics such as James Suckling and Jancis Robinson have already given high scores to their creations. A meteoric trajectory for a winery that produced 3,000 bottles in its first vintage and today barely exceeds 20,000.
