General Information

Quincha Corral 2016 expresses the full potential of the old bobal vines owned by Bodega Mustiguillo in Utiel (Valencia). With this red wine, the winery’s winemaker, Toni Sarrión, presents a new vintage of his most personal wine.

Quincha means small vineyard in this region, and that is precisely the origin of this single-varietal bobal: two small vineyards planted in 1919 and 1948, trained as bush vines and under strict dry farming. From these, the winemaker of Mustiguillo selected the best grape clusters. Once in the winery, these went through a double sorting table. Alcoholic fermentation took place over 12 days in open barrels, with small pigeages or manual punch-downs, personally carried out by Sarrión; and the malolactic fermentation with batonage lasted between 5 and 8 weeks. For the 18-month aging in French oak barrels, only the free-run wine was used. The final result is an artisanal and organic wine, powerful, mature, elegant, balanced, and with a velvety texture.

Bodega Mustiguillo was born in the late 1990s out of Toni Sarrión’s passion for wine and for a grape, bobal, which reflects the essence of the Mediterranean. In 2010, after years of hard work, the winery achieved its own exclusive designation of origin, Pago El Terrerazo, named after the family estate. In doing so, Mustiguillo became the first winery in the Levante region to obtain the Vino de Pago certification, the highest quality classification in Spain. Quincha Corral 2016 is its top-tier red wine, ideal for pairing with spiced dishes and game meats, roasted or juicy red meats, stews, or aged cheeses.

Founded in the year 2000, the philosophy of the family winery Mustiguillo can be summarized in two principles: to bring out the best of the native varieties and to offer wines that are a true expression of the soil and landscape. Located on the El Terrerazo estate in Utiel (Valencia), Mustiguillo is the result of Toni Sarrión's determination to prove that bobal, when cultivated with quality, is a great grape. Thus, based on the old vines housed on this family property, he launched a project that, in a short time, has managed to set a milestone in the Valencian wine scene, creating wines that are now part of the elite, with high scores from the most influential critics, such as Robert Parker; and achieving the distinction of being the first Mediterranean winery to obtain the recognition of Vino de Pago (DOP Pago El Terrerazo).

The first wines by Toni Sarrión, such as Quincha Corral, were sold exclusively in the most prestigious restaurants, like El Bulli. Currently, all the winery's wines are certified organic. They are produced on the estate itself, located at an altitude of 800 meters, in facilities integrated into the landscape: a total of 300,000 bottles annually produced from the 300 hectares of vineyards on the property; among them, some of the oldest bobal vines in the world, planted between 1919 and 1945. A parcelled estate cultivated with different varieties, where traditional viticulture coexists with the most modern cultivation techniques.
