General Information

Of great body, richness, and excellent balance, Dow's Late Bottled Vintage is a vintage port that is only made with the fruit of harvests of exceptional quality. Dow's Port uses in its design grapes from the main native varieties cultivated in its vineyards in the Douro Valley, namely, touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta barroca, tinta roriz (tempranillo), and tinto cão. After meticulous selection and vinification, the wine was aged in seasoned oak vats for 6 years. The result is a very stable port that retains its freshness even a week after opening.

The Symington family, one of the most important wine dynasties in the world, has owned Dow's Port, a leading port house, since its founding in 1798. From their vineyards, considered among the best in the Douro Valley, come concentrated and elegant ports like this Dow's Late Bottled Vintage that the Club proposes to you. A magnificent option to discover the carefully crafted creations of a centenary house.

Tasting notes

Of a beautiful and deep ruby color.

Intense nose of plum and pepper aromas, combined with hints of violets and other spices.

On the palate, it presents a good structure and vibrant fruity flavors. Persistent, long, and slightly dry finish.

The winery

Dow's Port is one of the most important wineries in Oporto. Founded in 1798 by the Portuguese merchant Bruno da Silva, who settled in London to sell his wines and quickly became a substantial part of the sector in the English capital, since 1961 and to this day, the firm has been owned by the Symington family, members of the exclusive association Primum Familiae Vini, which brings together the 11 leading wine families from around the world, including Mouton Rothschild from Bordeaux, Sassicaia from Tuscany, and Pol Roger from Champagne.

The house, located in Vila Nova de Gaia, owns five of the best vineyards in the Douro Valley, namely Quinta do Bomfim, Quinta de Cerdeira, Quinta da Fonte Branca, Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, and Quinta do Santinho, with a total area of 133 hectares. From their fruit are born concentrated, elegant, and aromatic wines, with a characteristic dry finish that wins over both the public and critics. Notably, one of their creations, Dow’s Vintage Port 2011, was chosen, among 5,400 references, as the best wine of 2014 by the prestigious magazine Wine Spectator.
