Bodegas Montecillo, a winery part of the Osborne group since 1973, has been producing wines with an enviable market position for over 150 years thanks to its excellent quality-price ratio. A good example of this is the Montecillo Blanco Fermentado en Barrica 2023 that we bring to you.
The third oldest winery in Spain leaves an unmistakable mark on its creations: the combination of mastery acquired during its long history along with a philosophy of deep respect for the vineyard, a strict selection of raw materials, and meticulous vinifications completed with aging processes in high-quality barrels and a slow refinement in the underground cellars of its Fuenmayor facilities (D.O.Ca. Rioja). Discover the essence of Bodegas Montecillo and its firm commitment to excellence and quality with Montecillo Blanco Fermentado en Barrica 2023, a white wine that pairs perfectly with summer salads, all kinds of rice dishes, grilled meats, seafood, and shushi.
Montecillo Blanco Fermentado en Barrica is a pale yellow wine with still greenish reflections. The glycerin and its density are clearly noticeable in the movement of the glass. On the nose, the sauvignon blanc variety predominates at first, with notes of passion fruit and grapefruit. When aired, notes of fresh pear and acacia flower appear, all surrounded by a light toast and pastry notes. Tremendously captivating. The constant and delicate work with the lees, along with the essence of the varietals, results in a wide, powerful, round, and very long wine on the palate. It is a wine to enjoy, with an elegant acidity that supports the whole ensemble where the fruit in the retronasal appears with great strength and continues to captivate us.
Bodegas Montecillo was founded in 1870 by Celestino Navajas Matute, being the oldest winery in the municipality of Fuenmayor and the third oldest winery of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Since 1973, Montecillo has belonged to the Osborne Family, and today it has become one of the benchmarks for long-aged wines. It produces the Clásica range (Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva, a white and a rosé), signature wines, and the Viña Monty range, which represents the most avant-garde winemaking trend of the centenary winery, committed to traditional production with a renewed approach.
Bodegas Montecillo has underground cellars that house vintages dating back to 1926, as well as an impressive manual bottle rack.
