Among the great classics of Spanish wine sits this label created by Mariano García in the eighties, a wine that marked a milestone for its innovative character. The new vintage, Mauro 2024 (95 pts Parker) will sell out again in record time. Impressive on the palate, with nerve and class.

Mauro 2024 returns to exceed expectations of enthusiasts eager for great wines. This new edition stems from a vintage that offered refined wines, with excellent concentration and low yields, qualities that further enhance this reference already turned into a great classic.

Mauro is the emblem of the García family winery, with Mariano at the helm together with his sons Eduardo and Alberto. An enveloping, silky red that is full of fruit and that occupies a place of honour among the country’s great wines and, moreover, stands out for its exceptional value for money.

It is made with 80% Tempranillo and 20% Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano. The grapes come from vineyards located in Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo. After careful winemaking, the wine ages for 16 months in fudres and French oak barrels of different ages.

Making process

Vintage

Fine wine vintage, with excellent concentration and low yields, with an autumn marked by successive storms and warm temperatures that continued into winter. The start of spring brought rain, wind and snow, as well as occasional frosts in spring that affected the first shoots and made field work more rigorous. A summer with stable temperatures and diurnal temperature swings at the end of the cycle fostered a very balanced ripening. Impeccable fruit health in a harvest that took place between 5 and 24 September.

Tasting notes

Nose

Vibrant, nuanced nose, full of red fruit with a counterpoint of herbal and balsamic notes.

Mouth

Imposing on the palate, with verve, class, and firm tannins.

Winemaker

Mariano García, one of the brightest figures in Spanish wine, was the winemaker at Vega Sicilia for nearly 30 years. Restless by nature, in the late seventies, he acquired 4 hectares of old vineyards in Tudela del Duero, which would become the foundation of his first personal project: Bodegas Mauro.

Bodegas Mauro (1980) marked a milestone in Spanish wine for its innovative concept: wine conceived as a reflection of the environment and terroir, separate vinification of plots, yield limitation, shorter aging periods to enhance the expression of the fruit… Currently, Mariano García runs the winery alongside his sons Eduardo and Alberto. Together, they produce the red wines Mauro, Mauro VS, and Terreus, brands so powerful that they do not need the umbrella of a designation of origin. Recently, the white wine Mauro Godello has been added to their catalog.
